The social networking giant Google has hired a graduate of Oxford University’s social network research program.

“He’s worked extensively with the company to help develop products that drive growth and drive innovation in social networks and with products that help people connect with friends,” a Google spokesperson said.
“We’re delighted to welcome him to Google.
Peter has a deep understanding of social media, and his expertise is a great fit for the social networking team we have at Google.”
Mr Scott is currently the senior executive in charge of Google’s business and marketing operations.
Smith’s experience at Oxford included working with social networking companies like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat, as well as with Google’s parent company Alphabet.
“Peter’s breadth of experience, experience and knowledge will help Google shape its strategy and product strategy in social,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
“It is a real pleasure to be joining Google’s leading social network executives, whose expertise spans a range of social platforms.”
Smith’s role at Google has expanded since he joined Google in 2016, the company said.
In a statement to The ABC, Google said the company was delighted to have Mr Scott join the Google social network business.
It said the social media manager had worked at Google for four years and had “helped the company build and grow its social and content properties”.
“He will be a key part of our strategy and a great asset to our global social network strategy,” it said.
Social media giants Facebook and Twitter have both hired people with Oxford degrees in recent years.
Google has not named any people for the role.
Smith has been a key figure in Google’s Facebook-powered social network.
In October 2016, he joined Facebook’s board of directors.
In 2015, he was named the director of Facebook’s social news team.
“This is a big day for me,” he said in an interview with The Australian newspaper.
“I’m looking forward to being part of the team.”
