A photo of LeBron James wearing a World Series jersey has gone viral on social media, garnering over a million views and more than 10,000 likes.
The photo, which has since been shared nearly 6,000 times, is of the former Cleveland Cavaliers superstar wearing a pair of World Series championship rings, which were left behind during the team’s historic championship run in 2020.
“The World Series is a game of survival, and it’s a time when you get to put your life on the line and show the world that you are a true champion,” James said in the video.
“So I’ve always wanted to give back and help others and show that I’ve got what it takes to be the best.”
The video also includes a caption reading, “This is my chance to give a message to the world.
You can win this game, I’ll give you a chance.
I can’t wait to see what happens next.”
James’ jersey was worn by the Miami Heat during the 2017 World Series and he had worn it for the entirety of the 2017 NBA Finals, which he won.
The championship rings were given to James by the NBA in 2019 after he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019.
He said that during his time with the Cavs, the team would always wear its championship rings in a tribute to the team.
“When we win a championship, it’s just like, ‘Oh my God, what’s that?'”
“We’re going to wear those rings.
It’s just the same as when we win.
It says everything that we’re about to do.”
The World Series has also been an iconic moment for the NBA.
In 2018, the league’s official Twitter account tweeted a tribute photo to the World Series, which was shared nearly 14 million times.
“For all of us who love the game of basketball, and for all of the fans who are here to watch the game on television, it is the pinnacle of sports,” the tweet read.
“It is a time of celebration, and we will never forget the incredible spirit of this game.”
The NBA and the World Championship will be played at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas, on June 5, 2021.
